🍋 Homemade Lemon Powder
A simple way to preserve lemon zest and add bright citrus flavor to desserts, drinks, sauces, marinades, and savory dishes. Just a small pinch can make a big difference!
🛒 Ingredients
- 4–6 fresh lemons
- Optional: 1 teaspoon granulated sugar, for sweet recipes
👩🍳 Instructions
1. Wash the lemons
Thoroughly wash and dry the lemons. If possible, use unwaxed lemons.
2. Remove the zest
Using a fine grater or zester, grate only the yellow outer skin. Avoid the white pith underneath, as it can make the powder bitter.
3. Dry the zest
Oven method:
Spread the lemon zest in a very thin layer on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Dry at 170°F (75°C) for about 30–60 minutes, stirring occasionally, until completely dry and crisp.
Air-fryer method:
Spread the zest in a thin layer and dry at the lowest temperature, checking frequently until crisp.
Natural method:
Spread the zest on a clean plate or tray and allow it to air-dry in a warm, dry place for several days, stirring occasionally.
4. Cool completely
Let the dried zest cool completely before grinding.
5. Grind into powder
Place the dried lemon zest in a spice grinder, coffee grinder, or blender. Pulse until you have a fine powder.
6. Store
Transfer the lemon powder to a completely dry, airtight glass jar. Store in a cool, dark cupboard.
🍋 How to Use It

- Tea, lemonade, and smoothies
- Yogurt or oatmeal
- Chicken and fish marinades

⭐ Important Tip
Make sure the zest is completely dry before grinding and storing. Any remaining moisture can cause the powder to clump or spoil.
